What is Pixie?

Pixie is exciting creativity software students can use to further their exploration of the world around them. Whether students demonstrate their understanding and knowledge through activities and directed work, or showcase their creativity and imagination with original art and writing, Pixie is the only canvas they need. Reasons for use

  • You can use Pixie creativity software to meet your curriculum goals across multiple subject areas.
  • Students can explore existing activities that teach and assess student understanding.
  • Students can create original work that demonstrates comprehension of classroom topics.
  • You can also extend observation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with student-created projects that incorporate painting, matching, writing, storytelling, narration, and more.
  • Use with your Smart Board to engage and motivate students.
  • Export options that allow students to share their work as images, movies, slide shows, comic strips, trading cards and web sites

Ease of use

  • Very easy for both teachers and students to use.
  • Select the "Stickers" tab on the top-right to access many, many images and clipart listed by category.
  • Click the camera icon at the top of the Stickers tab to take a photo with the built-in camera on the MacBook.
  • Click "Open" and then "Activities" to access hundreds of pre-made activities, templates, and worksheets.
  • Click "Open" and then "Backgrounds" to access backgrounds and graphics - great for creating a story!

"Snacks" - The Snacks are just-in-time references that provide answers to questions you have as you are working with Pixie.
  • Level 1 - Novice: Use level 1 if you are new to using technology. Level 1 is also great for those just learning to read.
  • Level 2 - Intermediate: Use level 2 if you have some computer experience, but do not consider yourself an advanced user.
  • Level 3 - Advanced: Use level 3 if you are comfortable on the computer and are ready for almost anything.

"Recipes" - The Recipes are tutorials which will help you get started using Pixie.
  • Level 1- Novice : Introducing Me! - You will complete two activities to introduce yourself and print them as a table tent.
  • Level 2 - Intermediate: Life Cycle of a Butterfly - In this Recipe, you will learn the basics of using Pixie 2 as you learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. You will create three images and show them in slide show.
  • Level 3 - Advanced: Multiplication Activities - In this Recipe, you will learn the basics of using Pixie as you explore number facts through skip counting, the commutative property of addition, and multiplication word problems.
